Randy Landen lives in Derby, Kansas, just south of Wichita. His love for carving began in 1977, when he and his wife Carol bought their first woodcarving at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Although they enjoy a wide range of carving styles, caricatures dominate their woodcarving collection.
Randy began carving in 1990 at the Woodcarving Rendezvous in Branson. His carvings are heavily influenced by early instructors Ed Zinger, Dave Dunham, and Harold Enlow, as well as the unique and sometimes entertaining situations he experienced during 33 years with the Wichita Police Department. After retiring from the police department in 2013, Randy served as the Director of Executive Protection at Koch Industries for 7 years, retiring “for real” in September of 2020. He holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wichita State University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 224th Session. Elected to the CCA in 1994, Randy has served as the President, President-Elect, and Secretary. Randy is proud to have been involved in development of the National Caricature Carving Competition and the CCA’s many book projects including “Thinking Inside the Roughout,” released in September 2019. Randy has carvings in private collections around the US, as well as the CCA Signature Collection on display at Peter Engler Designs in Branson, MO.
Randy has given carving and painting seminars across the United States. He has served as judge at a variety of woodcarving shows throughout the country, including the first CCA National Caricature Carving competition at Silver Dollar City in 2002 and five times for the International Wood Carvers Congress in Maquoketa, Iowa, including their 50th Anniversary competition.
Randy offers a wide variety of original carvings on the secondary art market through his website. Looking for a unique carving….check out his website at www.landenwoodcarving.com and click on “Carvings for Sale”.
